After reading it, I went out and bought Creative Visualization and Living in the Light, also by the same author. I remember feeling so at home
reading her books. What she was saying about the power of our thoughts and
learning how to let go and not steer the "raft" resonated with me. I have
remembered that metaphor to this day and it is such a helpful visual to know
that God is in control of all of our rafts on our white-water-rafting trip
called "classroom Earth."
After reading Shakti Gawain, I decided to read another book my mother gave
me, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. A
Christian Scientist had given my mother a copy after my dad died in 1983.
For the first time, I began to really understand the Bible and how Jesus
healed people. Mary Baker Eddy's discovery was based on her own development
of trust. She clearly understood what Jesus was talking about when he said,
"With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
(Matthew 19:26)
I began to study the Bible lessons daily and was then guided to read Joel
Goldsmith. Joel had been a Christian Science Practitioner for years before he wrote The Infinite Way. His developed consciousness brought him to the
understanding that the spiritual life was not about obtaining material
things in this world but about knowing God and living a life dedicated to
the truth about man and his image and likeness.
Joel Goldsmith's writings inspired me to call an Infinite Way teacher who
told me about the book, A Course in Miracles, and how the lessons in the
book really help to purify the mind. The lessons were so helpful in
allowing me to become open to seeing the world through love instead of fear.
The simplicity of it is amazing. All I ever need to know is that my
function is forgiveness and that when I want only love that is all I will
see.
My wish is for everyone to develop their consciousness if they wish to do so
and be guided by the wealth of inner wisdom that is in all of us!
